Mock wedding for Woodhead Primary pupils

Primary Two/Three pupils at Woodhead Primary at their mock wedding

YOUNGSTERS at Woodhead Primary School in Hamilton got a taste of married life last week when they held a mock wedding.

The children from primary two/three got dressed up for the day and headed for Trinity Church in the town. Ellie Laird took on the role of the beautiful bride and Craig McGowan was the handsome groom.

Rachel Frame and Megan Addis were selected as bridesmaids and best man Ross Smith gave an excellent speech after the ceremony.

Ushers Lewis Johnstone and Dylan Wilson showed guests to their seats in the church and Abbie Thomson conducted the ceremony as the minister.

Rebecca Rankine and Ross McLeish took on the roles of the groom’s parents and Demi Hislop and Jake Wilson were the bride’s parents.

Professional photographer Julie Lamont, of Bothwell, was on hand throughout the ceremony to capture the day.

Woodhead pupil Morgan Cunningham was also given the opportunity to be the photographer’s assistant for the day.

Primary two/three pupil Heather McLellan said: “Last week I was very excited. It was our mock wedding. Some of our mums and dads came to see us. We wore fancy clothes.

“After the service in the church, we went outside and took photos and everyone threw confetti at Ellie and Craig. Then we walked back to school.”

Some of the older pupils at the school held a reception for the youngsters when they returned.

Class teacher Paul Sullivan said: “The day was a great success. We decided to host a mock wedding because one of the youngsters was interested in photography and the idea just grew from there.

“I think this is the first time anything has been done like this at the school, but the children took on their roles really well and were perfect.”
