School choir stars shine in stunning show

PUPILS from schools in Hamilton, Strathaven and Law played their part in making the Lanarkshire Choir Festival 2008 an outstanding success.

The eighth annual event in Motherwell Concert Hall was again organised by civic pride organisation Supercounty and co-sponsored by BOC, with Andy Cameron as compere and more than 370 children taking part.

Glenlee Primary School in Burnbank, Hamilton, with a choir boasting 30 pupils, sang 'Sunset Poem' and 'Sleep My Little Baby', while St Mark's Primary School in Little Earnock, Hamilton, performed 'Tomorrow' and 'Mr Rock and Roll'.

The choir from St Patrick's Primary School in Strathaven, consisting of 19 pupils, chose 'The Dark Island' and 'I'd Do Anything', while Law Primary School choir sang 'This Train Is Bound for Glory' and 'With a Little Help From My Friends/ Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head'.

The other two schools representing South Lanarkshire came from East Kilbride.

The North Lanarkshire representatives were Christ the King Primary (Holytown), Holy Family Primary (Mossend), Muirhouse Primary, St Brendan's Primary (Muirhouse), St Bernadette's Primary (North Motherwell) and St Teresa's Primary (Newarthill).

Supercounty chairman Ian Livingstone said: "The performance of our choirs gets better and better every year.

“It's clear the amount of work teachers put into it – and that's a credit to Lanarkshire.

"The support from parents and grandparents who came along to the Choir Festival is most welcome. This is Lanarkshire at its best – coming together and showing what children can do to entertain everyone."
