Grammar welcomes primary seven pupils

PRIMARY seven pupils from Lanarkshire schools attended a special event as part of the student liaison programme.

Last Thursday, 180 pupils took part in Hamilton Grammar's annual P7 French lunch.

This event forms part of the school's extensive Primary-Secondary liaison programme, which aims to welcome and support new S1 pupils to the school.

Pupils were organised into mixed groups so that they could meet new friends from different schools.

They enjoyed 'une baguette, gateau et un boisson' (bread, cake and a drink).

Pupils met the Modern Languages staff, familiarised themselves with the school building and got to know their peers.

In addition, pupils took part in some language activities and listened to French music.

Gerry McAuley, depute head responsible for Primary to Secondary transition, said: “The afternoon is just one of many ways the staff at Hamilton Grammar try to ease the change from Primary to Secondary for the P7 pupils.

“It is fantastic to see the young people interacting and building relationships with pupils from the other schools and we look forward to our new S1 pupils joining us in August."
