Pupils can be fit for study

FIFTH- and sixth-year pupils from North Lanarkshire’s 25 secondary schools will have the opportunity to take a break from their exam studies over the next month — but it’s all in the name of health, fitness and wellbeing.

North Lanarkshire Council and North Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd — North Lanarkshire’s not-for-profit leisure trust — joined forces to launch a new initiative.

The two organisations are offering free study-leave membership for Access NL, which is the all-inclusive health and fitness initiative that offers something for everyone.

The study-leave membership is available to S5 and S6 pupils from North Lanarkshire, and the initiative will run until May 31.

During this period, the special membership for the senior pupils allows unlimited use of NL Leisure’s gyms, swimming pools, health suites, fitness classes and Slimming NL.

The scheme, which is believed to be the first of its kind, has been designed to ensure that pupils can effectively manage the stresses and strains of exam time by taking time out for health and fitness activities — something that has been proven to improve both body and mind.
