St Joseph's Primary are national champions
A BLANTYRE primary school have won a national football competition.
St Joseph's Primary School were victorious in the Scottish Schools Football Association Soccer Sixes.
The tournament — open to six-a-side teams consisting of pupils in primary six or under — culminated last week in a National Final at New Douglas Park, Hamilton.
Eight teams, who were each winners of their regional contests, took part in the tournament in Hamilton, with St Joseph’s playing schools from Edinburgh, Perthshire and Gourock.
In the final, St Joseph’s beat Belmont Primary School from Stranraer 3-1 to lift the trophy for the very first time.
Ryan Barrett and Ryan Tierney both managed to score seven goals in the event.
When the boys returned to school, head teacher Jacqueline Ross permitted them to take the trophy and medals around each class to show their fellow pupils, what they had achieved.
The winning St Joseph’s team were Daniel Lehmann, Connor Gaffney (captain), Peter Stewart, Jamie Cassidy, Ryan Tierney, Ryan Barrett, Michael Duffy and Jamie Morrison.
