St Joseph's pupils are award winners

PUPILS from St Joseph’s Primary School in Blantyre were presented with awards for public speaking.

The children took part in the recent South Lanarkshire Festival of Music and Verse and several of them received recognition for their efforts.

The award-winners were: Primary One solo verse speaking: Gemma Glackin; P3 prepared reading: Tom Callaghan; solo verse speaking: Kieran Burt; P4 prepared reading: Eleisha Ferguson; solo verse speaking: Luke Hitchen; P5 prepared reading: Carla Daly; P6 prepared reading: James Stark; solo verse speaking: Joseph Kellachan.

The winners in the Scottish Poetry section were: P6-7 solo verse: Paula Johnston; P4-5 Burns poetry: Ryan McDonagh; P6-7 Burns poetry: Joseph Kellachan.

Joseph Kellachan won the Robert Burns Junior Trophy for his outstanding performance of ‘Poor Maillie’s Elegy’, and St Joseph’s school band and choir took part in the music section.
