POLICE warned this week about the dangers of cycling while under the influence of alcohol after arresting a man for being drunk in charge of a bicycle.
Officers came across the man lying in the road at Hamilton View, Uddingston, around 3am on June 12 after falling off his bike.
A police spokesman said: “It was quickly ascertained that the male had not been the victim of an accident, but was drunk in charge of his bike and had fallen off while attempting to ride it.
“He was subsequently arrested for being drunk in charge of his cycle and conveyed to Motherwell Police Office.
“It is not just drivers of cars who put lives in danger by driving under the influence, cyclists who use their bikes under the influence not only place the public in danger, but risk serious injury to themselves.”
A man in his thirties will be subject to a report to the procurator fiscal.
