£500,000 road plans approved for district

COUNCILLORS on Wednesday approved roads improvement projects worth almost £500,000 which will take place in the Hamilton and Bothwell areas.

Under the agreed programme announced by the local authority resurfacing work is to be carried out on the busy Bothwell Road, Hamilton, at a cost of £270,000.

And a £200,000 upgrade is earmarked for Uddingston Road, Bothwell under the latest improvement programme.

Members of South Lanarkshire Council’s enterprise resources committee have also announced that they have appointed Colas Ltd to carry out the work on both projects using the so-called ‘Repave’ process.

This process involves heating the existing road surface to 150 degrees Centigrade then scraping it to a depth of 30mm.

The road is then re-profiled and re-surfaced using 25mm of hot rolled asphalt.

No material would be removed from the site during the work, councillors were told.

Roads officials have pledged to keep traffic disruption to a minimum although they say drivers should expect some delays.
