Teenager denies drink-drive and M-way crash charges

A YOUNG driver has denied crashing his car into barriers on the M74 near Hamilton while under the influence of alcohol.

Thomas Coles (18), of Bannockburn Place, New Stevenston, allegedly crashed his vehicle into the roadside barrier of the M74 at Junction 6 on March 29.

The impact of the incident, it is alleged, caused the vehicle to spin across the carriageway and collide with the opposite roadside barrier.

Coles has denied driving on the M74 that day with 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

He further denied failing to stop after an accident and failing to report it to police within a 24-hour period.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court last week, Sheriff Joyce Powrie set Coles’s trial for a date in June and ordained him to appear.
