Driver rescued from truck after M74 accident

HYDRAULIC cutting equipment was used this morning to rescue a truck driver from an accident on the M74.

Two trucks were involved in an accident on the M74 near the Larkhall cut-off this morning at Junction 8, Canderside Toll. The heavy goods vehicles were caught up in the accident where the man wound up trapped.

A spokesperson for Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said: “Fire engines were at the scene with Fire fighters at work with hydraulic cutting equipment to release the man.

“The man was eventually rescued at around 10am and Paramedics have taken him to Wishaw General Hospital for a precautionary check up.”

A spokesperson for Strathclyde Police said this morning: “Two lorries were involved in an accident that occurred at 9:20am this morning.

“Police and ambulance services are at the scene dealing with it.”

There are tail backs for about 4 or 5 miles northbound.
