Teenage brick thug is jailed

A YOB who struck a man with a brick and robbed him of coins was caged last week.

Eighteen-year-old Paul Black, who has stayed in a number of homeless units in Hamilton, including Blue Triangle in Clydesdale Street and Chatelherault’s Ferniegair House, assaulted David Gallacher on March 14 this year at Stroud Road in East Kilbride.

Black was on two separate bail orders when he committed the offence.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court last week, Sheriff Vincent Smith sentenced Black to 21 months detention for theassault.

The sheriff stated that four months of the term were for the bail aggravations.

Sheriff Smith also sentenced Black for two other offences.

The teenager assaulted an unknown male at East Kilbride Bus Station on January 21 by punching him on the head and body.

Then, on February 1, Black hurled a brick towards a house in Broom Crescent, East Kilbride, and challenged the occupants to come out and fight.

Black was on several bail orders at the time of both offences

Sheriff Smith jailed Black for three months for the bus station assault and three months for the Broom Crescent breach of the peace, meaning the 18-year-old will be caged for 27 months in total.

The sentence was back-dated to March 14 – the day Black went into police custody.
