Jailed for assault

A BLANTYRE man has been jailed for repeatedly punching a woman.

Thomas Hawkins (36), of Croftpark Crescent, assaulted Cheryl Monaghan last Saturday, August 16, at his house.

Hawkins punched Ms Monaghan on the head and body after grabbing her hair and pushing her to the ground.

He admitted an assault charge and committing a breach of the peace by shouting and swearing.

Hawkins also pleaded guilty to producing cannabis from his house, but his not guilty plea to supplying cannabis, possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis resin were all accepted by the Crown.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, Sheriff David Bicket jailed Hawkins for six months on account of his criminal record.
