Cops called to fracas at hotel’s beer garden

POLICE last weekend rushed to a Lanarkshire beer garden after fighting broke out among youths.

People passing Angels Hotel in Uddingston’s Main Street heard screams and the sound of glasses being smashed as the battling spilled out on to the road.

One witness told the Advertiser: “We saw one young lad pick up a bottle, run over the road to the hotel and smash it over another guy’s head.

“It seems that there were some lads in from Glasgow and the local lads took exception and fighting started.”

The passer-by said bare-chested yobs later chased a car containing the youths thought to be from the city.

Chief Inspector Tom Aitken, of Hamilton Police, said traffic police officers, dog branch officers and officers from Uddingston went to Angels after reports of the disturbance at about 12.20am Sunday.

“There were numerous people running about in all directions,” he added.

“However, no-one came forward to make a complaint of having been assaulted and no arrests were made.”

Police are continuing their investigations into the incident and trying to secure CCTV footage of the area.
