Man denies driving car into wall and head-butting police officer

A HAMILTON man this week denied crashing his car into a wall before assaulting a police officer.

John Malone (43), of Fleming Way, is alleged to have driven erratically on Hillhouse Road before mounting the pavement and crashing into a wall, narrowly missing a number of pedestrians on a footpath.

The charge states that Malone failed to stop after the accident, alleged to have occurred last Thursday, and failed to report it to police.

When officers visited his house the following day, July 25, it is alleged that Malone head-butted a police constable.

He then, it is claimed, failed to provide a breath sample at Hamilton Police Office.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, Sheriff Shiona Waldron granted Malone bail and set his trial for a date in October.

Malone denied all charges.
