Cleared of attack on fiancée’s dad

A HAMILTON manaccused of assaulting his fiancée’s dad with a bottle last week walked free from court.

Stuart Glancy, of Buchan Street, was acquitted at Hamilton Sheriff on two charges of assault, and one of breach of the peace.

Robert Thomson (36), had told the court that Glancy, his daughter Yasmin’s new boyfriend, had struck him with a bottle following an argument involving her ex, George Hamilton.

Mr Thomson said bottle attacks had taken place in the stairwell and outside the front door of his home at 4 West Clyde Street, Larkhall, on the evening of March 16 last year.

At the outset of the trial Glancy (26), pleaded not guilty to assaulting Mr Hamilton by punching him on the head and assaulting Mr Thomson by hitting him on the head with a bottle and repeatedly striking him on the head and body with a broken bottle to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

He also lodged a special defence stating he had been assaulted by Robert Thomson.

Glancy, of Buchan Street, Hamilton, also denied committing a breach of the peace in Larkhall’s John Street on March 17. All of the alleged offences were said to have taken place while Glancy was on bail on other matters.

However, last Wednesday, following evidence from 19-year-old Yasmin Thomson, the crown indicated that it was not proceeding with the charges due to insufficient evidence and Glancy was acquitted by Sheriff Thomas Welsh QC.
