Soldier admonished after Strathaven assault

A SOLDIER who assaulted a woman in Strathaven was last week admonished after demonstrating good behaviour to the court.

James Hutton (20), who serves in the 1st Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland, admitted assaulting Elizabeth Hutton on a walkway to the rear of Strathaven Castle, near Todshill Street, on August 4, 2006.

Hutton pushed her, causing her to fall on a fence.

He also admitted a breach of peace on the walkway by shouting and swearing, but his not guilty plea to resisting arrest and struggling violently with police was accepted by the procurator fiscal.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court last week, Hutton was admonished and dismissed when he appeared before Sheriff Vincent Smith.
