A ROW over an arrest ended up with a Hamilton man punching the father of his brother’s girlfriend.
Robert Kane admitted attacking and injuring Edward Holland, father of Angela Holland, when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday.
The 38-year-old father-of-four punched Edward Holland on the head and knocked him to the ground in Comely Bank on April 2, 2005.
Fiscal depute Rebecca Scully told the court Edward Holland’s daughter Angela was in a relationship with Kane’s brother.
Kane’s brother was arrested and the accused blamed Angela Holland.
As a result, Mr Holland went up to speak to the accused to clear up the misunderstanding.
While the complainer spoke to the accused’s sister in the street, Kane came outside.
They spoke about the incident regarding his brother and Mr Holland believed that the matter had been resolved.
While walking away, Mr Holland said to the accused: ‘I don’t want any more carry on.’
But Kane ran towards him saying: ‘Are you threatening me?’
Mr Holland then felt a tug at his arm and thinking he was going to be assaulted removed his glasses.
Kane then punched the complainer on the nose, causing him to fall to the ground.
Ms Scully said Mr Holland did not remember anything else until a woman helped him up off the ground before an ambulance arrived.
The fiscal depute told Sheriff Joyce Powrie that the matter had taken some time to come to court because the name of the accused had been incorrect and the proper name was not established until “after some investigation.”
Kane’s agent Andy Brophy explained: “He had been residing there (Comely Bank) since the incident occurred. There were no difficulties, and there’s no suggestion Kane was on the run.
“He was living in Comely Bank, working away and living there with his partner and four children.”
Sheriff Powrie deferred sentence on Kane until June 16.
