Accused denies street robbery

A MAN has denied committing an assault and attempted robbery in a Hamilton street.

Romanian David Alexandru (19), of Tennel Road, Birmingham, allegedly demanded money from Thomas Melvin in Carlisle Road on April 1 while brandishing a knife.

The following day, Alexandru appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Sheriff Shiona Waldron set the trial for June. She also granted Alexandru bail, but as a condition of the order Alexandru had to surrender his identification card to the sheriff clerk so he could not leave the country.
