Baby is 'best present from Santa'

Proud parents have been celebrating the arrival of Scotland's Christmas babies.

One of the first was a boy delivered at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary at 1.14am.

The baby, named Luke, was born to Julie Knight and William Reid, from Prestonpans, East Lothian, and weighed 8lb.

The hospital said both mother and baby were doing well and were hoping to go home later on Christmas Day.

Shortly after, another boy was born at St John's Hospital, Livingston. Antonia McLean, 26, and Colin McLean, 32, welcomed baby Cody into the world at 1.32am. The newborn weighed 8lb 9.5oz.

The first baby born at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Falkirk was a girl weighing 7lb 10oz.

Myah was born to parents Becky Thompson and Chris Docherty at 3.20am and staff said they could be leaving hospital soon to spend their first Christmas together at home.

Midwives at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and Inverclyde Royal Hospital in Greenock said they were still waiting for the first arrivals in their labour wards.
