Rescuers bid to help fishing boat

A rescue operation has been launched after a fishing boat began taking on water 50 miles from land.

Crew on the Rosemont raised the alarm at around 8.05pm on Wednesday when the vessel started to take on water following an earlier collision involving another boat.

The Shetland Coastguard helicopter flew to the scene, around 50 miles east of Lerwick on the island, and passed them an extra pump which has helped reduce the water level onboard.

Lerwick Lifeboat was also sent to the scene and will escort the Rosemont back to Lerwick.

There are five crew on board the Rosemont and no-one has been injured.
