Four in court over prisoner escape

Four people are due to appear in court in connection with the escape of a prisoner from custody last week.

Andrew Farndon, 26, was recaptured after he was sprung from the custody of prison officers as they escorted him to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, for treatment on Wednesday.

After two days he was arrested by Strathclyde Police in New Cumnock, Ayrshire, on Friday.

Three men and a woman were detained for allegedly attempting to pervert the ends of justice, police said.

Farndon and the four people, aged between 16 and 44, are expected to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court.
