Tories unveil trust schools plan

Independently-run free schools should be set up to operate separately from the current state system, the Tories have said.

They want to see the introduction of trusts which would take over the running of new schools along the lines of the type of system used in Sweden.

Tory education spokeswoman Liz Smith said that the new set-up would give teachers more control and parents more choice as she set out the plans in Edinburgh.
