Banks 'failing the debt-ridden'

High street banking practices must change if thousands of Scots are to avoid drowning in debt, a leading advisory body has warned.

The Citizen's Advice Bureau (CAB) said the bailed-out banks must show a greater sense of responsibility for their customers who are being failed by unfair lending policies.

Costly overdraft charges, high repayments and the sale of products to those already in debt are driving low income groups into financial holes, the body said.
