Multi-agency policing board created

A new body which brings together police chiefs and political leaders will help identify the key strategic issues for policing in Scotland, Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill has said.

The Scottish Policing Board, which includes police chief constables, as well as leading figures from police authorities, the Scottish Government and the local government group Cosla, are meeting for the first time.

It comes as Patrick Shearer, the chief constable of Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary and the president of the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (Acpos) warned that policing was facing "unprecedented financial challenges".
