Biogas facility given green light

Plans to build the UK's biggest biogas facility in South Lanarkshire, which will turn waste into enough energy to power more than 2,500 homes, have been given the green light.

Planning permission has been granted for the plant, which will be capable of producing five megawatts of electricity per year, located on the new M74 Eco-Park.

The £22.5 million facility, which is being built by Proactive Energy, converts organic waste into electricity which will be supplied to the National Grid.
