McConnell to stand for Parliament

Former First Minister Jack McConnell has confirmed he would stand for the Scottish Parliament again at the next election.

The Motherwell and Wishaw MSP has approached the local constituency Labour party with his intentions, his spokesman said.

It had been widely thought that he would move on after being named as a potential future high commissioner in Malawi, the African country he forged links with as Labour's Holyrood leader.
