MSPs back Bill on school closures

Legislation designed to protect rural schools and improve consultations on school closures has been passed by MSPs.

Holyrood unanimously endorsed the new law, which gives ministers the power to call in any school closure where they think its consultation process is seriously flawed.

Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop said this will give the public "further assurance that the councils must follow the correct process".
