Nearly 500 babies were stillborn or died shortly after birth in Scotland last year, a report has found.
Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, said the figures revealed a "national tragedy" and called for a national strategy to reduce the number of deaths in Scotland and the UK.
Sands' Saving Babies' Lives Report, 2009 found that 325 babies were stillborn in Scotland during 2008. The figure is equivalent to one in every 200 babies born in Scotland.
