Scotland bans finning of sharks

A complete ban on fishermen removing fins from sharks at sea is to come into force within weeks, the Scottish Government said.

Special permits have been needed for this since 2004 but the ban will now be made absolute, said Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead.

Shark fins are prized in Asia for use in soup and EU countries have been the main exporters.
