Regular weighing for children urged

Nationalists are calling for every primary school pupil to have their weight regularly monitored in a bid to improve the health of youngsters.

The idea will be debated by SNP activists at the party's conference in Glasgow this weekend.

It comes after figures in December showed that one in every five youngsters in primary one is overweight, and in the most deprived areas almost one in ten primary one pupils is classed as being obese.
