Police have called for the introduction of more lenient measures for motorists who commit minor driving offences.
Rank-and-file officers believe it is unfair that drivers guilty of offences at the lower end of the scale receive fixed penalties or face prosecution, while those involved in more serious crime were often let off with a warning.
The Central Scotland joint branch of the Scottish Police Federation has proposed a motion calling for the change, so that motorists will no longer be "prejudiced against".
