Councils told of at-risk homeowners

Under new legislation, councils will now be given an early warning when people are at risk of losing their homes.

The new measure will require landlords and creditors to inform the local authority when they take action to recover a property or call in a mortgage.

It is hoped this will allow the council to step in and offer support, such as money advice, to those threatened with being evicted or having their home repossessed.
