Asbestos illness compensation urged

Victims of an asbestos-related condition are at risk of fatal diseases and should be compensated, MSPs have heard.

Community safety minister Fergus Ewing said people with pleural plaques - a symptomless thickening of the lungs - also suffered "permanent anxiety".

The comments came as MSPs debated the final stage of new laws to allow sufferers to claim damages.
