Poetry Corner

KEEN poet Karen Tait from High Blantyre has submitted her own entry to Poetry Corner.

Karen says she was very proud at the age of 45 to graduate with a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from the University of Glasgow.

She said: “I remember one of my exam reports from primary school which stated that I was a dreamer. I only hope my day dreaming was not all in vain and is conveyed through my poetry.

“The poem Red Alert...Sharks in High Blantyre is based on a recent dream that I had.

“In my dream the front garden had dramatically changed into a small ocean.”

Red Alert...Sharks in High Blantyre

Have you ever had a moment,

When everyday life is not what it seems,

I recently had this encounter,

In one of my subconscious dreams.

I look out of my window,

And what do I see?

An almighty transformation,

Was happening right in front of me.

Our front garden was normally dark green,

Is now a vibrant aquamarine,

Not only that! but the ground of grass green,

Is now submerged in an oceanic terrain.

The small tree we had as a centre piece,

I presume had been taken hostage,

As in its place - believe it or not,

Was an ostrich!

Basking sharks were basking,

Other fish, and creatures too,

All of whom played their part,

In my underwater zoo.

But! this is not the end of the story,

Perhaps its just begun,

As into the water then dived my mum,

Swimming contently and in perfect harmony,

A melting pot of free spirits,

That were solely mine to see.

Then the ostrich got its legs stuck in the seabed,

That really was no joke,

And just as I was about to help it,

I awoke!
