HIGH Blantyre’s Karen Tait penned this poem about the sky.
The 47-year-old, from Waverly Terrace, has written a number of short poems and songs, normally about people she knows, places she has worked or visited.
Her hobbies include taking photographs of historic buildings and landscapes.
She said: “During the month of October, 2007, I was travelling on the Dumfries to Glasgow train. One of the stations the train passed through was the New Cumnock area.
“The time was between 7pm and 9pm. I was looking out of the train window — and just happened to have my camera handy — when I noticed that a part of the sky was absolutely spectacular with shades of orange and hints of red and cream.
“This gave me the opportunity to write this poem.”
Such a rarity is your brightness,
A joyous eclipse equalled by none.
I wish I could grasp and cherish
This moment for ever.
Beautiful orange sky.
You truly command the sky,
Yet are so quiet and still,
Like a sparkling gem illuminating the atmosphere
No neon can suppress.
Beautiful orange sky.
Splendid but impossible to reach,
Envelop me in your all-consuming glow,
Then carry me off into the abyss,
Rich in wonderment.
Beautiful orange sky.
Majestic in your stature,
So radiant is your warmth,
That only a genius
Could orchestrate your creation.
Beautiful orange sky.
All of those thoughts cross my mind,
Now I take the time to reflect,
On the day I was honoured to view
A scene also personified.
Beautiful orange sky.
