Nutini will Rock Against Racism in free Edinburgh gig

Paolo Nutini

PAISLEY rockstar Paolo Nutini is the latest act to be announced in the Scottish Government’s Rock Against Racism campaign.

The 22-year-old will take to the stage at the St Brides Centre in Edinburgh on Monday October 12 in a free show.

This is the latest in a series of Rock Against Racism (RoAR) concerts which have so far seen the Sugababes and the Noisettes perform at venues across Scotland.

Minister for Housing and Communities, Alex Neil MSP said: "October sees Scotland's very own Paolo Nutini returning to perform at the third Rock Against Racism gig of 2009. The last 2 gigs have been a real success and it will be fantastic to have a Scottish act bringing home the anti-racism message to a young audience.”

Tickets to RoAR with Paolo Nutini are free and available through Bauer Media competitions next week (Clyde 1, Forth One, MFR, Tay FM, Northsound 1, West FM & Radio Borders) and at www.RockAgainstRacism.info now.

RoAR also gives unsigned bands and solo artists based in Scotland the chance to shine via its renowned ‘Talent Trawl’. Anyone who has aspirations to be the Next Big Thing can win the chance to open the show at any of the two remaining gigs on this year’s RoAR tour.

For the chance to support Paolo Nutini and other major acts in 2009, log onto www.rockagainstracism.info now. The competition is open to any unsigned musicians living in Scotland over the age of 16.

The closing date for the Paolo support slot is Friday September 25 at 9am. Five finalists will be shortlisted ahead of each show and the eventual winner will be determined via an online public vote and announced on 2nd October.

There is also the chance for members of the public to ‘have their say’ on the Rock Against Racism website and to take part in a national racism survey.
