CHART-TOPPING boyband The Wanted will perform a gig at Hamilton Park this summer.
The Wanted, who spent 11 weeks at number one with their smash hit ‘All Time Low’, will appear at the racecourse on Friday, July 22. It is the second standalone concert announced at Hamilton Park this summer. The Advertiser reported last month how megastars Westlife will appear at the track on Saturday, July 23.
The Wanted, who recently reached number three in the UK charts with the 2011 Comic Relief single ‘Gold Forever’ will make a happy return to Lanarkshire.
Just weeks after performing at the racecourse's Cash for Kids fixture last season, the five-strong band went on to enjoy huge success in the UK charts with ‘All Time Low’, their debut single.
The boys, Tom, Siva, Max, Jay and Nathan, scooped two gongs including ‘Biggest Breakthrough’ at the 4Music Awards in 2010, before their debut track was nominated for ‘Best British Single’ at this year's Brit Awards.
The back-to-back gigs mark more progress in the development of Hamilton Park as a live music and entertainment venue after last summer's first standalone gig, featuring JLS, attracted a 13,000 sell-out crowd.
Vivien Kyles, Hamilton Park Racecourse chief executive, said: “We're delighted to welcome The Wanted as the second of our two standalone music acts this summer. Over the last few years, our strategy has been to develop Hamilton Park as a venue to show our capability of hosting high-profile events on non-racing days and we are now building on the huge success of our first ever standalone concert with JLS last year.
“The Wanted's meteoric rise to fame over the last 12 months speaks volumes for their talent and popularity and welcoming them to Hamilton Park for their biggest concert in Scotland this summer is another feather in the cap of the racecourse. With Westlife on stage the following night, it promises to be an unforgettable weekend.”
The Wanted's appearance at Hamilton Park in June last year was one of the venue's 2010 highlights, which included that capacity standalone concert from JLS and live performances by Olly Murs, Stacey Solomon, and Alesha Dixon.
Tickets for The Wanted’s gig, starting at £25, are now on sale from the Hamilton Park website (www.hamilton-park.co.uk), Ticketmaster (08444 999 990 / www.ticketmaster.co.uk) and ticketSOUP (0844 481 8898 / www.ticketsoup.com).
