A LARKHALL bassist has been rubbing shoulders with celebrated rock acts and working with some of the industry’s top producers.
In December 2009, we reported that Alan Williamson – a 24-year-old former Larkhall Academy pupil – had been signed to Warner Bros Records with his band, LostAlone.
He had taken up bass duties with Derbyshire rockers, which includes singer/guitarist Steven Battelle and drummer Mark Gibson, only for the group to be signed by the world-renowned company a fortnight later.
Now, after a massive European tour supporting with bands such as My Chemical Romance and 30 Seconds To Mars, as well as working with top producers in Los Angeles, the group are ready to release their new album in the coming months.
Alan and the band had to opportunity of working with producers Jackknife Lee – who has worked with R.E.M., Weezer, U2, and Biffy Clyro, among others – and Greg Wells, whose back catalogue includes work with Katy Perry, Aerosmith and the Deftones.
A release date for LostAlone’s latest offering is expected shortly.
Alan said this week: “After signing the record deal with Warner Brothers at the end of 2009, we went on a sell out UK/European arena tour supporting 30 Seconds to Mars.
“After the tour, we went into the studio to continue writing.
“We were then in search of a producer to work with us on the making of our new album.
“In May 2010, we flew out to Los Angeles for six weeks to record and worked with two producers, Jacknife Lee and Greg Wells.
“After the recording process, the album had to then be mixed, which took place in London with Alan Moulder.
“He has done work with The Killers, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins.
“We then began rehearsing and started touring with My Chemical Romance a few weeks ago.
“We completed the UK leg of the tour in Newcastle and are now heading to mainland Europe for another month.
“It was an amazing experience playing the SECC in Glasgow and having all my family there to be a part of it.”
Paradox On Earth, the first track from LostAlone’s new album, has just been released and can be downloaded for free on the band’s site.
Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, known for championing new music, played the track for the first time on his show last month.
Alan added: “His reaction can be heard on our website. We will be announcing a release date for the album over the next few weeks.”
