Local singer’s new EP climbs pre-order charts

SINGER-songwriter Marc Evans is celebrating after the early success of his new EP.

The release – a four-song record called ‘War-torn Heart’ – was this week sitting at number seven in Play.com’s pre-order album chart, and at number nine in the overall pre-order chart.

The jubilant 34-year-old had planned to release the download-only EP last weekend, but due to various hold-ups it was only available on pre-order.

It will receive its full release next month.

He said: “It’s done well so far, though I don’t know exactly how many pre-orders I have sold exactly.

“It must be a fair amount, considering where it is in the pre-order chart. It’s great, because you have some massive names in the chart and in between them is this singer-songwriter from Wishaw.”

The guitarist – who draws heavily from Americana influences such as Ryan Adams – told the Advertiser this week that the EP’s central theme is based on a type of “storytelling”.

“I focus on certain topics that come under life experiences, and basically tell stories about them.

“For example, one of the songs on the EP, called ‘Forever You’, is often mistaken for a love song.

“It is, in a way, but it is more about the inspiration I get from my daughters, Sarah-Lee (17) and Rhiannon (8).”

Marc also explained that Sarah-Lee produced some of the artwork for the release, which can be viewed on his website.

The release came about after the talented songwriter was given a publishing and distribution deal with Mojo Records.

He told the Advertiser this week: “I think ‘War-torn Heart’ will appeal to anyone who is a fan of honest songwriting and who likes Americana-influenced Scottish music.”

’War-torn Heart’ will be released fully on April 8 on Play and Amazon.
