BELLSHILL rockers Teenage Fanclub are to perform at a main stage slot at this summer’s Wickerman Festival.
The alt-rock legends – who have won over a die-hard following since their formation in 1989 – will play at the event in Dumfries and Galloway on Friday, July 23.
Consistently popular, Teenage Fanclub carved a niche that embraced pop, alternative and indie styles of music, and counted Nirvana icon Kurt Cobain among their fans.
Affectionately known as “The Bellshill Beach Boys,” which is a reference to both their origin and musical influences, the band also released a new single called Baby Lee on Monday.
When asked about performing at the festival, Teenage Fanclub front man Norman Blake said: “I am really happy to be playing the Wickerman. I actually have a little piece of the original Wickerman that was burnt at the end of the famous movie.
“My friend ‘acquired’ it for me about 10 years ago before the remaining stumps were stolen from Burrowhead.”
Taking place on picturesque farmland in the south of Scotland, the festival is recognised for its diverse booking policy and family-friendly credentials.
Other notable acts on the 2010 line- up include Sunderland’s The Futureheads and veteran singer Tony Christie.
The Undertones and The Buzzcocks will also perform.
Around 15,000 revellers are expected to gather at the festival on July 23 and 24 at East Kirkcarswell Farm, near Dundrennan.
