Quarter singer Colette (22) to headline Club Noir night

A SINGER from Quarter will top the bill at a world-famous club night in Glasgow this weekend.

Talented vocalist Colette Neill will take to the stage to headline the first music gig staged by the highly successful burlesque brand Club Noir.

And the former Holy Cross High pupil hopes that the performance will open doors for her and her unique brand of music, described as “indie-soul”.

The evening, which has been called ‘Black Eyes, Blue Heart’, will take place at Glasgow’s ABC 2 on Saturday and will begin at 7.30pm.

Colette explained: “Basically, I had performed at a couple of Club Noir nights in Glasgow before and people seemed to like what I do.

“When I was studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, I put on a few cabaret nights.

“Club Noir owners Ian Single and Tina Warren came to see my shows and then approached me and offered to promote me as a singer for their brand.”

Colette approached an American university friend to get involved with the project.

Adam Day Howard (29), a talented multi-instrulmentalist from Ohio, provided the backing for Colette’s voice.

She said: “Adam is very talented and can play 12 instruments.

“He’s played for me before but on Saturday he will also have his own set before mine.

“For me, this gig is going to be huge. I’m quite nervous but I’m also really looking forward to it.

“My family will all be there, cheering me on.”

Colette lives in Quarter with her parents Grace and Hugh Neill and her sister Greer (25).

The 22-year-old has described her sound as “indie-soul”, after deciding on the label with collaborator Adam.

She explained: “We had done a few covers and we tried to think of a way to describe the sound.

“We settled for indie-soul. The music itself is the kind that you would hear indie bands playing, while my voice is a bit more soul.

“I love indie music, but I also love soul and Motown voices, so we have kind of combined the two.

“I definitely hope this gig opens doors for me. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best. It’s going to be a great experience.”

Club Noir is officially the biggest burlesque club brand in the world, with up to 2000 people at each event.

Performances are mainly in Glasgow, with occasional events in Edinburgh and London.

Club Noir owner Ian Single said that this will be the brand’s first music-only show.

He said: “Club Noir clubbers love us not just for the burlesque shows but for the music and bands we showcase.

“We have high quality bands, world-class musicians with a lot of personality.

“As Club Noir is only on for about four nights a year, our clubbers were keen to see more of these fabulous bands.”

Tickets to Saturday’s event are available on www.ticketmaster.co.uk, priced £5.
