Wickerman Festival searches for unsigned talent for TV ad

Music fans take a closer look at the wicker man.

SOME of the best songs ever written would never have been such mammoth hits if it wasn’t for the power of television advertising putting them out to the masses.

Now one of Scotland’s top music festivals is giving unsigned bands the opportunity to have their song on the sound track of a TV ad.

The Wickerman Festival is inviting artists and bands to send in their own music and the winning track will be used in an advert promoting the festival.

Festival Director Sid Ambrose is looking forward to a big response: “This is a brilliant opportunity for any un-signed act that can create an original piece of music”, he said.

Organisers of the festival, which takes place in Dumfries and Galloway, are also offering the winners of the competition the chance to play on the main stage at this year’s festival which takes place on July 23 and 24.

Sid continued: “Not only will their soundtrack be heard by an estimated 3 million people but they also win the chance to support some big name acts.”

Some of the big name acts to have graced the main stage in recent years are KT Tunstall, The Zutons, Utah Saints and the Human League.

The Wickerman, now preparing for its ninth year, won the Best Grass Roots Festival award in 2007 and is firmly established in the UK festival circuit.
