Karaoke star Christeen is all set to go Retro at 80s music event

A TALENTED Motherwell entertainer is set to take to the stage at this year’s Retrofest festival.

Christeen MacMurdie, a karaoke presenter at the Fir Park Social Club in Motherwell, will perform at the festival this weekend as part of cabaret company Entertainment Express.

The company have performed cabaret and movie theme shows at venues including the Shawlands Hotel, Larkhall and Seamill Hydro, West Kilbride.

Now Christeen will star on the main stage tomorrow night (Friday) performing in the Grease versus Dirty Dancing Show.

Christeen said: “I attended the Retrofest gig last year at Strathclyde Park. This year I contacted them to see if they would be interested in running a karaoke tent.

“Luckily enough, I teamed up with Entertainment Express and we could offer more in the way of staging, lighting and costumes.

“Retrofest were keen to develop the idea into a Karaoke/Cinema Tent for Saturday and Sunday.

“They then asked Entertainment Express to perform on the main stage with our Grease versus Dirty Dancing Show. I am really looking forward to it.”

Christeen, who has only been singing karaoke for the past year, got through to the Karaoke Champ final, a competition run by the Daily Record and Sunday Mail last year.

Christeen is married to Ronnie and has a son, Craig, aged 13.

The couple are both retired and previously owned The Hair Company in Motherwell and Wishaw for more than 40 years.

“I’ve really only started singing in the past 12 months and I absolutely love it,” said Christeen.

This year’s Retrofest event is to be staged at Loudon Castle, in Ayrshire.

The 80s music festival will run Friday, August 28, Saturday, 29 and Sunday, 30.

The line-up includes Gloria Gaynor, Rick Astley, East 17, Bay City Rollers and Level 42.
