Hamilton Park to host exclusive Hue and Cry gig

HUE and Cry are to play an exclusive gig at Hamilton Park racecourse's Ladies Night on Saturday ahead of the release of their hugely-anticipated comeback album Open Soul.

The band, brothers Greg and Pat Kane, are behind hits such as Labour of Love and Looking for Lindaand  will give fans at the Lanarkshire track an early glimpse of material from their forthcoming release ahead of a full UK tour which starts in September.

Hue and Cry have also enjoyed a renaissance in recent years, with a now-famous rendition of Beyonce's Crazy in Love on the ITV show 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' in 2005 followed by more success with their much-talked-about appearance on BBC Children In Need.

Now the Coatbridge-born duo, formed in 1983 and with over two million album sales since, will make a Lanarkshire homecoming and perform, in association with Radio Clyde, following racing at Hamilton Park's Ladies Night this Saturday a full month ahead of the release of their latest album Open Soul on September 8.

Hamilton Park chief executive Vivien Kyles said: "We are thrilled to be welcoming Hue and Cry to Hamilton Park and this represents another major coup for the racecourse.

"Initial feedback from punters has been hugely positive with many having been fans of the band since the 80s while a younger generation have caught the bug thanks to their recent TV success. It will be great to see them performing in front of a home crowd.

"As far as Ladies Night is concerned, it's the icing on the cake with Hue and Cry, Hamilton Accies and our Best Dressed Lady competition on top of the racing it's one of our best ever line-ups."

As well as the performance by Hue and Cry, fashion and football will complement the usual dose of racing at Ladies Night.

On the football front, local heroes Hamilton Accies will display the Scottish First Division trophy at the racecoursein advance of their debut season in the SPL.

New Douglas Park manager Billy Reid and his first team squad of players will be on hand to sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans ahead of their league opener at home to Dundee United on Monday, August 11.

A dose of fashion will be thrown in when Accies boss Reid takes his place on the judging panel alongside Radio Clyde 1 DJ Suzie McGuire and No 1 Magazine's Nadine Hawkins for the prestigious Best Dressed Lady competition.

All this and a six-race card featuring £34,000 of prize-money with feature race the £11,000 European Breeders' Fund Fillies' Handicap Stakes at 8.35pm.

Gates open at 4.35pm with the first race at 6.35pm and last at 9.05pm.
