Strum along and find out who wins final of open-mic contest

THE final of strum — Lanarkshire’s premier open-mic night — will take place at Angels Hotel in Uddingston tonight (Thursday).

Since October last year, strum has been lighting up Lanarkshire on Thursday nights with a variety of musical acts, but it is now time for the strum 2008 final.

Emma Dunlop, Ross and Cameron, Steve McKenna, Steven Rodgers, Jane and Chris, and Stevie B will compete against each other for the top prize of £600 and a day in the Old Mill Studios in Strathaven.

They will be joined by Alistair Bassett, who made it through to the final after receiving the most votes in an online poll.

The event will be broadcast live on L107 and will start at 8.30pm in the Uddingston venue.

Ex-Radio One DJ Mark Page will be one of the judges for the contest.

Siobhan Edwards, the brains behind the event, said: “I am delighted with how it has all worked out.

“In the final we have a vocalist to a backing track, a rap artist, and five acts playing a mix of vocals with an acoustic guitar.”

Plans are already in motion for strum 2009, with the brewers Belhaven already pledging their support to the event.
