Lanarkshire bands on track to raise charity cash

THREE Lanarkshire bands have donated songs to a charity CD in aid of Yorkhill Children’s Foundation.

The Daisy Park, The River Detectives and De Rosa will each donate one single to be part of the 65-track compilation album, called ‘Doing it for the Kids 2008‘ which will donate all proceeds to the charity.

The Daisy Park from Motherwell can be heard performing their song ‘Julie’ on the limited edition triple CD.

Vocalist and guitarist, Paul Mathieson, said: “We were happy to get involved in this project as it is for a great cause and we always try to help out whenever possible.

“Our track ‘Julie’ was the only song we had mixed properly when we were approached by the organisers, and so it was the only one we could contribute to the project.”

The Daisy Park are currently recording their debut album at the Reeltime Studios in Motherwell and hope to release it in the summer.

Bellshill rock band De Rosa will sing ‘Ore’ and Motherwell’s The River Detectives, will perform ‘King of the Ghost Train Ride’.

The project is the brainchild of Sandy Fyfe from Perth, who has been amazed by the response from all of the artists taking part.

He said: “The goodwill towards the hospital that exists is apparent from the incredible support I have had, and several of the artists have had their own personal experiences of the hospital.”

Doing it for the Kids, the 65-track compilation is priced at £6.49, available from April 11 at www.resonancestore.com/yorkhillproject.

In addition to the compilation album there will be 266 individually numbered CDs available for auction, one for each bed in the hospital.

Each one carries a ward and bed number from the hospital. These limited CDs will be auctioned over coming months with all proceeds of the download and CD auction going to the charity.

The Doing it for the Kids 08 project will also hold a launch night at Glasgow’s Classic Grand on April 10.

Sandy Fyfe, said: “The showcase launch gig is all about raising awareness of the limited edition auction CD and the download.

“The gig will feature short sets from eight contributing artists to the CD including The Orchids and singer Alex Lowe with his new band, the Garage Flowers.”

“In addition there will be guest DJ sets from upcoming Glasgow band Wake the President and former Motherwell and Scotland football player, Pat Nevin, will compere the evening.”

Tickets for the showcase are £5 and are available from www.tickets-scotland.com .
