THE Orpheus Club makes a welcome return to Glasgow’s King’s Theatre with Jekyll and Hyde — The Musical next week.
Three talented Lanarkshire singers from the club will star in the production’s chorus.
Fiona Letham (37), of Uddingston, is a solicitor and has been singing with the club since 1995.
Clerical assistant Niall Paton (25), from Lesmahagow, is a new member of the Orpheus Club.
Jim Aitchison (59), of Hamilton, is an architect who has been with the club “for more years than he cares to remember.”
This powerful musical has never been presented by an amateur club in Glasgow, and as the title suggests, the story is based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s short novel — The Strange Tale of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
The Orpheus Club’s 2008 production promises to be a stunning theatrical experience, with Walter Paul returning as director, and Andrew Nicol as musical director, Catherine Dunn as choreographer, and Ian Irving as lighting designer.
The two leading ladies are Catherine Brannan-Usher and Jennie Wilkie, and the title role will be shared on different evenings by two leading lights in Glasgow amateur theatre — Sam Lapping and Ross Nicol.
As usual a strong supporting ensemble of principals, and The Orpheus Club Chorus provide the experienced backing, essential for such a major production.
The show, which this year is in aid of the Maggie’s Centre in Glasgow, will run from Tuesday, March 4, to Saturday, March 8.
Tickets are available from the King’s Theatre Box Office on 0870 060 6648 and are priced £10 to £18.
