‘Brothers’ still know how to knock out a great rock tune

HAMILTON rockers Brothers of Craig took to the stage on Saturday night for their first performance in 17 years.

The venue was Nice ‘n Sleazy in Glasgow.

With such a long spell away from the stage, you could be forgiven for expecting the first few numbers to be nervously delivered to the sold-out crowd.

Instead, the band belted out the first few tunes that included the track “Tossing and Turning” which sold 1000 copies when released over 20 years ago.

The gothic rockers whipped through a set of 16 songs, barely even stopping to take a breath.

Highlights included “Colour of Heaven”, “Don’t Stop Me Now” and “Just One Of Those Days” and the final song of the evening, complete with a roof-raising drum solo, “Jigsaw”.

The crowd, made up mainly of over 40s, seemed to enjoy reliving their youth with this band from the 80s.

The younger members seemed to appreciate the music of bygone days, but a few tweaks here and there and the introduction of some new faces have brought this band soaring back up to date to hold their own in the noughties.

Although a few sound problems did cause moments the band would rather forget they soldiered on with the utmost professionalism.

The venue did not offer the greatest of acoustics when combined with the fantastically loud drumming of Lawrie Kennedy, but as they continue to gain support, this is sure to be remembered only as a minor glitch.

As the band came off the stage at the end of the set, they were met by fans and supporters telling them it was a brilliant show and that they were glad to have them back.

Although made up of men mainly in their 40s, there is no denying these guys know how to sing and perform a rock song.

With the current trend favouring the reunion of bands from the past, this group are surely one to watch.
