WITH Britain’s Got Talent runner-up Susan Boyle overlooked for a Brit Award, we took to the streets of Hamilton to ask if the Scots singer should have been included.
Margaret McWilliam (66), of Blantyre, said: “I don’t see the point in all of these awards. Susan Boyle is a lovely singer and has done really well, but musicians get too many awards that don’t matter. Doctors, nurses and builders aren’t given awards of any significance, celebrities are over-rated and we’re too celeb orientated.”
Robert McWilliam (67), said: “Susan Boyle has achieved as much as anybody who has been nominated, so I think she should have been included. I like her type of music and she’s a nice singer. Nowadays, though, people get instant stardom rather than working in the music halls or even making a demo.
Shirley-Ann Cairnie (34), of Kirkmuirhill, said: “Susan Boyle should definitely have been nominated. She’s come up in the world and is working hard, otherwise she would be the same as anybody here. I’m surprised she wasn’t nominated.”
Jonathan Lyons (25), of Stonehouse, said: “Susan Boyle has a limited musical talent and the Brit Awards cater for a lot of popular music, so I don’t think she’s the correct genre for them. I appreciate that she had an album at number one but the Brit Awards are more about popular music and she’s not current enough.”
