THE chaffinch is the most common bird in South Lanarkshire gardens.
That’s according to the RSPB’s recent annual survey .
It was spotted in 68.69% of the area’s gardens, with an average of 4.58 birds per garden, in this year’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.
Almost 1200 people from South Lanarkshire took part in this year’s survey which was conducted recently .
Other average South Lanarkshire figures for bird species per garden were: house sparrow 4.55; starling 4.49; blue tit 2.78; blackbird 2.37; great tit 1.51; robin 1.40; coal tit 1.38; dunnock 1.26 and greenfinch 1.26.
